The Qatar Law Forum will convene for the second time in Doha this Friday May 4th, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.
The Forum will be honoured by the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who will be presiding over the opening ceremony, and by a selection of very distinguished Qatari and international figures of the judicial, financial, political and academic worlds.

This year’s edition will be held under the very topical theme “The Rule of Law in a Time of Change”, and many of the subjects that will be discussed over 3 days will address the quick shifting world events from a legal perspective. In times of wide and fast changes the future becomes an even greater concern than usual, for the impact on everyone’s life is always significant and its scope difficult to predict. It also affects almost every aspect of life and society, including the important field of law, one of the main pillars of a civilized and modern society.

It’s typically in such peculiar situations that experts, pundits and decision-makers are required to make use of their knowledge and experience to try and figure out the road that’s laying out before us. This is not a guessing work but solid analysis of the situation and knowledgeable exchange of information and ideas that should lead to a better understanding of the present and the future.

Indeed, the first session on the Forum’s agenda will discuss “The rule of law and the future”. Other sessions will deal with “The Rule of Law and Change in the Arab World” and “Freedom of communication and expression in times of change”. But other important issues will also be on the menu, such as “The role of ethics and law in finance”, “Anti-corruption – the rule of law and economic, political and social development “, “The role of International Courts in advancing the rule of law”, along with several “specialist discussions” covering more specialized topics such as “2012 Olympics – 2022 World Cup: law, delivery and development” or "Global enforcement of legal awards". Please consult our agenda page for a complete and detailed program of the forum.

The second Qatar Law Forum will be held on 4-6 May 2012 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Doha in Qatar. It will host 368 participants from 61 countries.
